Inbox Zero has launched an open source email client for Gmail and Outlook on web, Mac, Windows and iPhone. The client is free, with optional AI that sorts email and drafts replies for $20 per month.
TEL AVIV, IL — October 14, 2026 — Inbox Zero, the email software company founded by developer Elie Steinbock, today launched the Inbox Zero email client, a keyboard-driven email application for Gmail and Microsoft Outlook users available on the web, Mac, Windows and iPhone. The client is free to use, with optional artificial intelligence (AI) features available for $20 per month. Inbox Zero built the product to give professionals who manage high volumes of email a fast, shortcut-based inbox at a lower cost than existing premium email clients, with source code that anyone can review.
Premium email clients built around speed and keyboard shortcuts have gained a steady following among startup founders and investors. Superhuman, a widely used client in this category, offers AI reply drafts on its $40 per month plan. Inbox Zero takes a similar keyboard-first approach for Gmail and Outlook and includes its AI features at $20 per month, with a free trial of seven days. Users who do not need AI can use the email client at no cost.
The web and desktop versions of the client are open source, meaning the code is publicly available for anyone to read, test or modify. The project is hosted on GitHub, a platform where developers publish and collaborate on software, and has received more than 12,000 stars from developers. The code is released under the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL), which allows individuals and organizations to inspect how their email is handled or run the software on their own servers. The native iPhone app is a separate application.

When the AI plan is active, Inbox Zero sorts and labels every incoming email as it arrives. For emails that need a response, a reply draft written in the user’s own tone is prepared before the user opens the message. For meeting requests, the assistant checks the user’s calendar and suggests times when the user is available. Users adjust how the assistant behaves by describing what they want in plain English, without configuring rules or settings menus.
The Inbox Zero email client also includes:
-
A single inbox that combines every connected Gmail and Outlook account
-
A split inbox that places emails needing a reply in their own tab
-
Private team comments on any email, which are never sent to the recipient
-
Bulk unsubscribe from newsletters in a single click
-
Slack notifications for important emails
“Most people spend the first hour of their workday sorting email before they can act on any of it,” said Elie Steinbock, founder of Inbox Zero. “The client does that sorting before the inbox is even opened, so the emails that need a reply sit in one tab with a draft already attached. Keeping the code public means anyone who wants to know exactly how their email is processed can read it for themselves.”
The Inbox Zero email client is available today at getinboxzero.com. It works with Gmail, Google Workspace and Microsoft Outlook accounts and runs in the browser, as desktop apps for Mac and Windows, and as a native iPhone app. The email client is free, and the AI plan costs $20 per month after a free trial of seven days.
